Install VNC Server On CentOS-6

How To Setup VNC (Virtual Network Computing) CentOS-6
-Used to connect to remote server/computer
-Will be able to view graphical desktop of server/computer that has VNC server program installed
1. Install VNC server (on computer you want to VNC to) # yum install tigervnc-server
2. Install VNC client (on computer that will be connecting to VNC server) # yum install vnc
3. Create VNC user. This process will create local user account on the remote server/computer as well.

*I had issues with remote server/computer not accepting my login password.  Physically login to server/computer and reset to password from there to resolve.

# su –
# useradd johndoe
4. Create users’ VNC password # Su – johndoe
# vncpasswd
5. Configure users’ display preference # nano /etc/sysconfig/vncservers
VNCSERVERS=”1:johndoe”
VNCSERVERARGS[1]=”-geometry 800×600″
6. Open port in iptables to allow clients to connect to server/computer with VNC server installed. # nano /etc/sysconfig/iptables
add the following to the iptables file:
-A INPUT -m state –state NEW -m tcp -p tcp –dport 5901 -j ACCEPT
7. Restart the iptables # /sbin/service iptables restart
8. Start VNC server # /sbin/service vncserver start
9. Start vncserver automatically after each server/computer reboot. This is optional of course. # /sbin/chkconfig vncserver on
10. READY TO CONNECT!? LETS GO! From client (computer other than server) # Vncviewer xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:1 IP address server/computer where VNC server is installed in:1
