How To Install Webmin From Linux Terminal

“Webmin is a web-based interface for system administration for Unix.
Using any browser that supports tables and forms, you can setup user
accounts, Apache, internet services, DNS, file sharing and so on.”

“Webmin consists of a simple web server, and a number of CGI programs
which directly update system files like /etc/inetd.conf and /etc/passwd.”

-Above verbage obtained from Webmin Version 1.590 README file.

From Linux Terminal via ssh or physical Linux server Terminal and as root (su -), perform the following steps:

  1. wget http://sourceforge.net/projects/webadmin/files/webmin/1.590/webmin-1.590.tar.gz/download
  2. tar zxvf webmin-1.590.tar.gz
  3. cd webmin-1.590
  4. sh setup.sh             <——–Input/answer a series of question (or leave as default for each questions)

#Now Webmin is installed.  Go to your physical Linux server and log into it.  Then login to your Webmin server from the browser by putting the following URL in the address bar, localhost:10000 or [serverhostname]:10000.  If you changed port number during the initial setup of Webmin, instead of using default port (10000), you’ll need to append it after the colon (:).

–>To check status of Webmin: # service webmin status

–>To start Webmin: # service webmin start

–>To stop Webmin: # service webmin stop
